Hi all,

I purchased an old (pretty old I would said)  Ariens 6HP (Tecum engine). I am not sure how old it is and what is it model number. What I see is that it has a white engine instead of black as in some other Ariens snow thrower. It was working for sometime but now it doesn't move anymore. I opened the bottom plate and saw that the rubber on the friction disc felt out so I guess the friction disc is broken. Would you be able to help me locate the part to buy and  how to replace it.

Another bit of information, I measured the diameter of the friction disc, it appears to be about 5 1/2 - 5 3/4 inch.

If it could help, another thing that I noticed is that the system uses no chain. It is all gear driven. I saw a few instruction on the net for removing the friction disc from a chain system, but mine doesn't have any chain at all. Just gears.

Hi there. Start off by looking under the left handle bar,on the bottom plate. The model and serial numbers should be on a sticker. If no sticker, the numbers should be stamped into the metal.
Might have to scrape some paint off. Get the numbers and go to www.ariens.com Go into parts radar. Put in model and serial number this should bring up an exploded parts diagram, plus parts numbers. You can get owners and parts manuals from Ariens also.
Books cost me about $13.00 about four years ago.
Also check on the blower right side as you are standing behind the machine,where the snow shoots out. There should be another sticker, this is for the snow blower unit.
The numbers on the bottom cover are for the tractor drive unit. With both of these numbers (tractor and snow blower) you should get the right manuals.

Your pictures didn't take- but copying the link got me to them.      

No help on a model number, but your vintage looks like late 70s to me.   I'll bet this is the disk - Ebay item 290198617556 .   You're only out $13 if it isn't.

Removal/replacement might be a bear.      As simple as these machines were, my disk replacement takes 2-3 hours.    There are some later models that don't require taking *everything* apart to slide the disc off a hex shaft.

Thanks Jim, I ordered the disc. It is cheap enough that I can order a few for spare part. Hopefully I can get it done this weekend. It is very cold here in New England so I am not looking forward to an easy time :(
