Hello,

Another stupid Question , what should the RPM be when using the snowblower?

Thank You , Alan

I do not know about Briggs engines, but Tecumseh should turn at 3600 Rpm at WOT !

I believe the manufacturer recommends maximum rpm when operating the engine under working conditions.  3600 rpm is not particularly fast for an engine of that size.  If the engines weren't governed, I'd bet that an over head valve engine would happily run at 5000 rpm and the L head at at least 4000.

l'm just saying if the max rpm is 3600 which i believe it is, then there's no sense in pushing the engine to its limits, the engine should have close to its max hp at around 3000 rpm give or take

thats the way how l understand it works

Niper99:

This is a quote from my 2006 Simplicity Snow Thrower manual with the 9.5 h.p. B&S Intek Snow Max engine:  Page 15, paragraph 2, " ENGINE SPEED - Always run the snow thrower at full throttle."

At 3600 rpm, the engine isn't at it's limits.  It's at it's designed operating rpm.  I always run my ope machines wide open.  That's where the power is.  I've never had a problem.  If I paid for 9.5 horse power, why would I run it at 7 or 8 h.p.?

Take a walk on the wild side and try full throttle.  You'll like it.

borat  have you done any research on this engine yet.  what is the actual power band of it???   how many rpms equals max torque.       after so many rpm's  the actual torque drops off.

Max Torque is at,  about 3000 RPM's.   IMHO

Ahhh yes I have.

If you have issues with what rpms to run your engine at, I suggest you correct the manufacturer.  I'm not too concerned with the graphs.  I have a tach on my machine.  There is a noticeable difference in performance between 3000 and 3600 rpm.  Higher rpms throws the snow further. Simple as that.   It could possibly have something to do with horse power instead of just torque.    Run your engine at whatever speed you want.  Once warmed up, mine runs wide open all the time.

last time i checked  these engines come factory pre-set to run at 3600 rpm's.   so borat when you and everyone else runs there machine at wide open   it is at 3600.  yes you are correct in some of these engine with different internal parts will run faster.  you need cobalt/ hardend valves,  heat treated cam gear connecting rod etc.   briggs and stratton actually has a motorsports division.  they specialize in go cart engines.   some are   world formula,  godzilla.   these do not have the governor system inside but the have a rev limiter on the ignition coil.  these are set at a desired rpm as not to blow the engine.

Would the rpm of those racing engines be limited at or below 3600?

No need to beleaguer this topic.  The manual states, without reservation, to run the engine at full throttle.  Full throttle is 3600 rpm.  What's hard to understand about that?

Or, is there a secret conspiracy among engine manufacturers to have us run our engines at 3600 rpm so that they expire sooner therefore requiring the purchase of more engines?

Yeah.  That's got to be it.
