Tire Inflator
Original Message   Apr 30, 2007 10:19 am
I bought a 12V tire inflator called and "Airman" to carry around in my van about 11 months ago. About 4 months ago while using it for the fourth time it started making a funny noise and wouldn't inflate any more. Took it back to Canadian Tire and they replaced it. Tried using the new one for the second time and it started to make the same funny noise. Back to CT, they no longer stock that particular model so they say I'm out of luck.

There are two obvious issues:
  1. The unit has a 12 month waranty on it, I don't care if its no longer in stock, I bought it from CT and they should honour their commitment; and
  2. The unit is not reliable and I want one that is.
I will be contacting CT's customer service group at head office about issue number 1.

I want to get recommendations from people here as to what reliable 12V inflators they would recommend.

I don't feel that I over use the thing but I have had several pneumatic tires go flat or at least soft in the last year and have used it. When it works its been a back saver, when it breaks its a true and utter pain so reliability is top of the list for me.

Nibbler this item is still available at our CT, it looks pretty nice too, but last week, I was thinking to get one, but I changed my mind! Did I may had taken the good choice not to buy it? There must be a construction default as I read your story.

I can't comment on that particular model since it wasn't the one that I was trying to use.

I had one of these:

There are kits with extra stuff but all I wanted was a compressor with tire inflator. Funnily enough this thing is listed on the CT website, I'm going to try and find a local store that stocks it. The one I went to didn't but there are several in the area. I might also contact their head office.

The thing that I am worried about is that what we see is the plastic casing while what is breaking is the internal compressor. The unit you have a picture of and the one I have may be the same internally and just have a different outter shell and accesories. Since it was the compressor that was breaking thats the thing I'm concerned about.

My owner's manu said that you can't operate it for more than 10 minutes without letting it cool down. I never exceeded that but it is something to be aware of.

If I have to buy a new one then its not going to be airMAN. What I'm hoping to get from here is recommendations on either a brand name or what to look for when evaluating a product.
