I recently aquired a Snapper i 422, it has a 4hp Tecumseh engine. The model number on the snowbloer is i4222e if that would help any. My question is about the carb. When I put gas in the tank and turn on the shut-off, gas starts coming out of a pinsize hole in the side of the carb (see picture).  When I push the primer gas shoots out of the hole. I'm pretty sure this isn't supposed to happen. any suggestions on why it is? I looked in a small engine repair book and a carb that was like mine had a discharge hole, but I'm not sure if thats what the hole on mine is. Also, can anyone think of any way to get this fixed? The pictures are kind of blury, but my camera doesnt work very well that close up. By the way, the only information i could find on the engine is that its hs40 you can google it if it helps.

     

Jake nailed it. However, the main well tube is ALSO clogged, which is why it isn't dribbling out the carb throat area. You will need to remove the bowl nut (main jet) & run a wire up thru the main well tube - it extends into the carb throat. A GOOD carb cleaning is DEFINITELY in order here...

Thanks, I'll do that.  I just want to get it ready and running for the first snowstorm (which I hope will be soon)  ; )

I'm trying to get it back to new, and the first step is to get the engine running. 

By the way, does anyone out there own a snapper, that could give me some info on it?

all I know is that it has a 4 horsepower tecumseh hs 40 engine on it, and that the model number is i4222e.

Does anyone know what year it might be from? The guy i got it from said 7 or 8 years old, but it looks a lot older.

The Snapper, yeah i know she's a bit rusty,  but its only surface rust...

The Toro, still starts on the second pull!  (even without the primer bulb)

That Snapper is a nice little machine! Why don't you treat it to some sanding, then a few coats of Red & white spray paint? She'll look like NEW!

LOVE those little Toro's - a $2 primer bulb will square him up! Just be prepared for the "fun" of removing all the cowling to gain access to it...

Actually, that was next on my list. After I got the engine running (hopefully today). I was going to sand it and paint it so it would look nice.  I'll take some pics when its done.

I was also planning to get a new primer, next time I went to the hardware store for some sprk plugs and things(most likey also today). I don't think it will be to difficult to get into the cowling on the Toro. "I'm experienced", I've had to do it on bothe of my other single stages. The MTD, when the recoil starter broke, adn the electric start wouldnt engage, and on my old Toro S 200, it was my dads, dads, snowthrower, which finally konked out after all these years. Both times I had no trouble.

5552L is the engine Spec, 555 says it's a HSK40 engine, other long  number is it's serial number.
