10HP tecumsah/crafstman hard to start

I have a 10HP craftsman that will not turn over all the time. The starter will run fine when removed and will turn the motor over when the spark plug is removed. However, it will only turn over every 5th or so try under compression. I appreciate any help. Thanks

That's my story...and I'm stickin' to it..

Try jumping it with a good battery & see if that helps. If the battery & starter check out ok, valve adjustment should checked. Insufficient clearance will lead to the ACR (thats automatic compression release) not functioning properly, causing the starter to labor. And its spelled TECUMSEH!! Marty FORMERLY MAJORXLR8N
