governor & carb settings on a 5hp tecumseth
Original Message   Nov 9, 2006 11:27 am
hello all,

i'm trying to get my carb and governor setup on this snowblower

i pulled off the carb and fixed a leaking bowl

once i put it back on,i can not get it setup properly

what are the steps to sync the carb to idle properly and not rev up too high?

how do you determine what is the right setting and spring tension etc..

Mike

Its TECUMSEH. Why does almost everyone have difficulty with properly spelling this engine name?!?  Anyways...

You didn't post a model number so we'll have to fish here...

Does your carb have high & low speed fuel mixture adjustment screws? If so, set them so the high speed (on the carb bowl's bottom) is turned counterclockwise 1.5 turns from a LIGHTLY seated position, low speed (on the carb's side, in the middle of the body) is turned counterclockwise 1 turn from a LIGHTLY seated position.

If the governor settings were messed with, you will have to run the engine at LOW speed & achieve your best low speed RPM by adjusting the idle stop screw at the TOP of the carb. Only then should you increase the throttle & shoot for the high speed governor setting. Adjust the small screw right next to the throttle lever until a safe, high RPM is achieved.

Hope that helps...

This is a big help foer me asw I have ther same problem . Ftom the carb there are 2 small wire rods connected to a lever . ( I thought this was the governor ) . The lever screws to another lever . I loosened up the screw For this , & I Thought this was an adjustment for the governnor . How do I adjust  this ?
