MTD Auger Replacement

Any suggestions on how to replace an Auger on an MTD Snowblower about 10 yrs old? I removed the side screws as well as the 2 spring pins that were in the shaft going back from the impeller to the engine, but it did not slide out - I sprayed it with lubricate but didn't know if I should try heating it up or there were other suggestions on how to get the pieces apart so that I can slide the auger off and replace it?
