Can an new Arien's 7524E be fitted with a light?
Original Message   Dec 13, 2005 7:21 pm
I am considering purchasing an Ariens 7524E.  However, I would like a light.  The first model in the Ariens lineup with a light is a 926LE.  The 926LE is more snow blower than I need.  It is rather large as well.  I am partial to Ariens because I had an Ariens older 1962 or 65 unit that I had purchased about 6 years ago.  However it tires were worn and it had starting problems.  I figured if that Ariens product lasted this long then I should be well served by new Ariens unit.

Is the 7524E a decent unit for the money?  Dealers in the area are asking MSRP.  I have seen some posts that Ariens has cheapened the Compact & Deluxe units to sell in Home Depot.  Is there any truth to this?  Back to my original question:  Can the 7524E configured with the Tecumseh 7.5 OVH engine be retrofitted with a light?  Tecumseh's site mentions that the OHV engines can be fitted with an optional: "18 Watt A.C. Lighting Alternator, 3 Amp. D.C./5 Amp. A.C. ".  Is this a factory install only?  Thanks in advance for any assistance.  Steve

If I remember correctly you need to look at the model number of the engine that is actually on the blower. You then go to the Tecumseh site and lookup the specific model. The number is made up of several fields that give the exact features that are on the engine.

My engine comes with a built in alternator, attaching a separate one might be a bit of a trick.

To go with what nibbler already said, it seems as though the charging system is already built into the engine, and adding one would require a tear down and rebuild sorta to add it, might be too much of a hassle.

What about a LED flashlight or something, they run for a long time and can be pretty bright. You could always rig up something to drive off the pullys like a small DC alternator and just run a automotive bulb off that.

Not trying to sell you anything, but with HDs pricing for 150 more you would get the extra 2hp, and the console mounted controls(I find VERY useflul). Getting the hologen setup and alternator would probably be 50 bucks at least anyway, not to mention hours of labor putting it on.

If all else fails, try a bicycle headlight. You can get a real bright light and the clamping system I bet would adapt pretty easy to your bars.

We use a five LED bicycle lamp. In fact it's usually on my bike as there are usually street lights where we live, jut one dark ally. I also have a headlamp I use for camping, 3 LEDs.

Keep it inside until you start, if the batteries get cold the battery output goes down.

Not as bright as the Halogen light kit, but gets the job done.
