I don't remember blue lawnboys
Original Message   Jun 16, 2005 1:21 pm

I'm sure someone on the forum remembers these, we had a couple of old ones from the sixties but they were tan or light green.

This one was in our local paper, it is a 1964 been used to mow the same 1 acre lot every year since it was new.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, the distinctive sound of an old lawn boy running.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, the distinctive sound of an old lawn boy mower owner crying after being told there's no more help and it's time to let go...

Seriously though, I haven't seen any blue lawn boys either.  The tan, green and goldish ones are all I can recall and those are fading into the farthest nether regions of my mind.  It used to be that we'd see 50 - 75 of them a year, now it's down to 10 - 15 maybe.  Some parts are getting harder to get for them and it's like you are telling the owner a member of their family has passed.

Seems to me I remember seeing one in my very early years at my grandfathers. I was so young I can't be sure but it sure rings back close to home.

I have an early 60's Lawn Boy that is canary yellow.  As far as I can tell, it is the original color.

Okay, I better just post an apology to that last comment right now.  It was just a joke, but I don't want anyone to be offended.  For All I know that's one of EMMO's relatives. Truthfully, I actually think it's cool that the guy in the picture still uses a push mower, especially with a 1 acre lawn.  I just purchased a new push mower, Toro 20053 SR4.  When I went to the local OPE dealer, they thought I was nuts for wanting a push mower.  Told me nobody uses them anymore.  That they only sell one or two of those each year and they don't even stock that model.   I told them I'm one of those two people.  I left the place and bought it online.

Again, kudos to the guy in the picture...seriously.

Termy, it's still in the box.  I actually don't have a lawn right now, just some vicious weeds.  Have to sod (or seed) it.  Most likely sod it and most likely soon.  So once I use it I'll definitely post a review.  But I did also purchase a Stihl FS 55RC gas powered trimmer to take care of the weeds.  They were knee high plus in some areas.  I was like Genghis Khan out there, lopping off weeds left and right.  It made short work of them.  I am impressed with it after it's initial use.

If it's level ground, then it would be ok.  I think that sky blue looks nice on a push mower.

Those old 2 stroke Lawn Boys were great for on hills and unlevel ground.  The reason being that they didn't have oil in the base to lubricate the engine, it was in the gas.  We see lots of mowers with the correwct amountof oil in every year jump into the graveyard because the owner was using them on a bank where the oil lubrication just was sufficient.  When you break the news to the them they usually say, "My lawnboy mowed that bank/hill for years."

They were a good machine in their day.  Unfortunetly that day has passed.
