Joe, what's this large fender/guard on the JD? I haven't seen one before?

Most manufacturers made those fenders for "orchard style" tractors. Kept the lugs of the tires (and other parts of the tractor) from catching the low limbs of the trees and breaking them off. Breaking off even small limbs lowers next year's crop. By "streamlining", or enclosing most of the projections on the tractors, they were better able to glide through the orchard with out damaging the trees.
