Briggs and Stratton Fource Engine
Original Message   May 8, 2005 10:24 am
I was on the briggs and stratton website recently and saw in their "what's new" category that they have recently come out with a small four stroke engine for use on string trimmers, leaf blowers, tiller/cultivators, etc.  Does anyone have any experience with this engine on any of these applications?  If so, how does it stack up vs. the small Honda Engine used on the Honda String Trimmers?  I think that Cub Cadet and Troy Bilt are using this new briggs on their higher end string trimmers (not positive though).  I posted to Mr Mom about the new Deere 4 cycle blower, I had hoped they were using a US engine but I see they are using a fuji-robin 4 stroke....

John Deere GT 225 and 2305

Husqvarna 340

Honda UMK432LTA Trimmer

Bombardier Outlander 400XT

Briggs & Stratton Powerwasher to clean them all with.

I know, thats what worries me. I have a brand new trimmer that I am supposed to get 20 years out of. Well, hell, I am not going to get nothing if they ban 2cycle engines! I talked with my brother about this and he said if they ever do ban 2cycle engines, it will be California first before its us. That relived me a bit. But then you got to ask yourself one question, do you feel luck............punk? Well...........Do Ya?

Where did you get this info on banning 2 cycle engines?  I'd only think they would just stop making them.

A member posted about this at abbysguide some time back. If I remember right, he got his information from this article from a website. Hay, if you think about it, the EPA can be both the problem and the fix. I think we just need to compramise here. All California small engines as we speak have catillic convertors on them. Why not just deman that for 2010. Don't tell us that we have to stop using 2cycles all together!
