Androgenetic Alopecia
Well add another reason for dreading that next birthday. Seems your hormone levels affect your skin, your nails and, gulp, your hair. For women, as your hormones go, so goes your hair.
As you age, the changing levels or hormones can cause a pattern of hair loss known as androgenetic alopecia. Big name for thinning hair on the top of your head. Women keep their hairline better than men do (it’s genetics so blame mom and dad) and thinning can be treated with minoxidil and other topical treatments. Some oral medications like hormone replacement therapy and spironolactone can block the effect of androgens and slow the process.
So if it’s a sad day for your crowning glory as you blow out the candles one more time, call your dermatologist for some OTC or prescription help.
