THANKS to everyone who answered. I just didn't have the experience to know that I needed to use a little force. It's out now - thanks again!!

Thanks Talldog. I think it only opens from the top. The top is the side that screws into the gun, right?
grease gun

Sorry if this is a trivial question, but I have an Ariens 824 and I learned on this site how important it is to keep it greased. So I bought a Briggs and Stratton grease gun and the grease canister it came with lasted me for 3 winters. Now it is time to put a new canister in and I can't figure out how to get the old one out.  I have the spring loaded arm in the opened locked position on the tube that holds the grease cartridge, but the old cartridge doesn't want to come out. I assume this is easy to do, but I just can't figure it out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Marty,

Thanks a lot. Given my work schedule, I won't be able to get to this until the weekend. But given the predictions for warm weather this week, I won't be needing the snowblower before then.

I'll let you know how I make out.

Thanks for the response Marty. When I took the bolt out, lots of fuel came out. I din't clean out the holes because I could look in one side and see out the other.  I will take it off again and clean the holes with a wire as you suggest.  I thought it was a good sign that  the bowl was clean when it came off. Is there anything else that I should do? By the way, what is the purpose of the holes in the bolt?

I notice you live in Freehold. My parents lived in Englishtown for many years. But as they got older (they are in their 90's) they couldn't handle the winter so they are now in Florida.

Thanks again for your help.

Paul
