Re: Help me decide; Oreck vs. Simplicty/Riccar or other?
#1   Sep 7, 2012 6:08 pm
Ok, I haven't exactly read all of the responses, cause this caught my eye and was signing out, but given that I am a vacuum enthusiast and technician, I have worked on Orecks and the riccar/simplicity supralite/freedom and will say that even with the base supralite/freedom, you have better cleaning power than the oreck. The riccar/simplicity vacs use the same motor through out the 5 variants, the only differences are having a switch on the handle or having one on the body, having the multi speed switch, having a wooden brushroll, having a metal brush roll, having a hall sensor (jam detection) and having paper bags or micron filtered bags. The fans and motors are the exact same, so the rsl1 cleans the same as the rsl5 when the rsl5 is on high, the differences are the cloth collection bag vs the paper, the metal brush roll with replaceable strips, the hall sensor and the multi speed switch on the handle.

The riccar/simplicity models handle hair and other debris better than the orecks because the fan has a deeper fin with a tighter curve shape to deflect objects and keep hair from winding up.

I own an oreck commercial XL, an RSL3 and an RSL5... Would take the riccars over the orecks any day...
Re: Turbo brush tool

The dyson mini-turbine head is the best air driven turbo tool.. The one with this part number (915034-02) is sold as a universal kit that fits standard hoses... These do not loose suction because the air that drives the belt fan is bypassed from the dirt.. it has its own intake.. I use mine regularly because I have long haired cats. I use mine with a riccar 1700 canister, filter queen majestic, riccar radiance premium and silent master s2. I love this thing.. Now they have a rotary one that I wanna try!
Re: Rainbow D2 Separator

Sounds dumb, but have you tried turning it the other way? I can't remember.. are the separators reverse thread? You'd think they would be? I have one next to me that is disassembled but there isn't a nut on it to try ... Other wise I would.. LOL..
Re: SEBO Vacs

I've tried and he won't get me a sebo to demo... He isn't interested in dealing with the line.. but after I started asking about sebo, he did buy a sebo X4 that a lady traded for a kirby sentria (dumb move I think) and thought that he'd sell it to me.. I told him I knew what he was up to and that it wasn't gonna go.. SO now he's stuck with a like new x4 that is just setting.. LOL Oh well I guess...

As far as the canister with the long hose, its nice to be able to do an entire flight of stairs without fighting with the canister, as well as clean my car out without having to drag the vac to each door.. That being said, I recently acquired a MD-S2 central vac canister that I installed.. Just had to pay for 2 new motors in it.. Talk about power... WOW.... That solves the 16' hose request cause now I have 30'... I'm using a lindhaus wide power nozzle with it. That lindhaus doesn't pull up the rugs as much as the riccar did. I think the Riccar is gonna go to Grandma for Christmas that way its still around if I ever needed it back...
Re: Is Kirby going plastic???

If it helps, I just bought my mom a sentria II and they are considerably lighter than her old G3... They are more plasticy than the old models, less metal in the handles etc... on a side note, after I paid what I paid, she called me and asked if she could return it because there really wasn't a difference in the G3 and the Sentria II.. Really had a DUHHHH moment with her on the phone. The new bags look awesome though..
