Re: Advice on 13 year old Craftsman (C950-52340-3) Snow Blower

It is likely that you willhave to disassemble the carb and soak everything in carb cleaner to get the gunk out. But try it out first. If it runs and idles nothing more is needed. Definitely check oil before running, and it wouldnt hurt to change the oil before attempting to run. Depending on how it was stored it could have aquired some moisture. in the crankcase, and there is no guarantees on what might have happened to it over 10+ years

Good luck

Auger Worm Gear for Old Craftsman SnowThrower
#2   Jan 30, 2008 8:50 pm
I now understand what Sears means when they say the auger gearbox is lubricated for life. When the lube drys out- the life is over. So now I am looking for a discontinued worm gear.

Sears Model 536.884700, worm gear Sears PN 47801. This is a 20 tooth, left hand, 2 thread worm gear. Dimensions:  ID-1",  0.870 thick, about 3" outer diameter(best guess since most of the teeth are gone). The manufacturer is Murray, and they also list it as discontinued.  I am willing to try somthing that isn't a perfect match to get it going. The engine serial number puts the year at either 1976 or 1986. Bought it used, but I would guess 1986. Any help will be appreciated.
