Ariens 926LE Power Loss
#1   Feb 20, 2019 8:39 pm
The machine is a 2005 and in the last 2 years seems to have lost power. Cleaned the carb a few times and recently put a new carb. Checked the intake and exhaust valve clearance and had .006 on intake and .003 on exhaust. Figuring .003 isn’t in spec but not 0 I tried the new carb. Started right up but I can see a blue flame out the exhaust and it is red hot. I figure the exhaust valve is leaking when the engine gets hot and the valve expands thermally. Do you think I am due to grind the valve to get clearance and lap the valves? I am just worried about breaking a bolt taking the head off. Thanks and any advice is appreciated. GP

It's full to the bottom of the filler hole now but the input shaft seal is below that. There was a recommendation to lower the fill level a while back.
Ariens 926LE Gearcase Seepage

It seems for the past 2 summers I've had some seepage from the shaft seal in the Aluminum XS auger gearcase. The level remains at the fill hole though so its very little. I've seen a post by Snowmann saying to lower the level by raising thewheels and letting some out. Has anyone done this and had any issues? I figured it would eventually stop when the level get low enough. Seems like pressure during the warm weather is the cause. Thanks GP

Arien's Pinion Anti-Rotation Kit

I have a 2005 926LE (926101).  Some time ago, not this year (probably last year or further back), I found a hair pin in my trailer while loading/unloading the unit.  I am not sure when it was.  This past week, I was doing some service and had the unit in the service position and had the wheels off with the cover off the bottom.  I noticed some iron dust at the pinion shaft inside the cover and the slight imprint of the hairpin in the orange paint on the side. Now I know where the pin goes.  I looked on line and found the anti-rotation kit and the recommendation here to others to install the kit.  I just order the kit from the dealer.  I have the hairpin reinstalled.  I guess I wore the holes some since it was used without the pin in there.   The unit does work fine though.  I don't think there was any major damage.  I just want to do the upgrade.

Question is, how to install the kit:  I see a bolt sticking out of the side of the machine that the loop of the hairpin is around to stop the rotation.  There is some movement because it doesn't touch the pin all the time.  I suppose the plate for the kit goes on the bolt, the pin is held stationary by the plate and the nut goes on the bolt right?  I won't have the kit until next week, I am just making sure I know how to install it before it comes.  Kit part number is #52603400.

Thanks

GP
