I'm in agreement with snowshoveler, an electronic coil will take away all the guess work and save a ton of time .

Wondering what is a good compression for a saw mine seems to be around 50 -55 pounds? That is not near enough. Should be at least 80psi to run decent. Normally they are around 100psi to as high as 140psi. Take the muffler off and see if the piston is scored.

If it's a single belt machine and the auger is engaged and turing, I'd take a look at the friction wheel assembly. It's on a spring loaded carrier and may be hanging up or need adjustment. This one doesn't have a differential but this is what the old ones look like inside.  The bearing to the left side of the friction wheel looks like it's on an angle or worn out.
