Title: Another question . . .
Post by guess_who on 04/01/07 at 3:00pm

Hi,

If price fixing is an agreement between business competitors to sell the same product or service at the same price what is an agreement between manufacturers like Dyson and Miele that may mandate the specific pricing of their product by vendors?

Thanks,

Venson

Hello Venson:

All dyson models have a dealer price and retail advertised price. This practice keeps the price high. Even large chains like Sam's Club stores and Wal*Mart can NOT advertise lower than dyson Market Sales price.  If they do, they would have to pay a higher price themselves. This practice is illegal in Europe, and in James Dyson's home the United Kingdom.

Hello Venson:

Miele's are different from dysons.  Why?  They are sold through independent dealers not big box stores.  The advertised Miele prices are a starting point for price negotiations not the price of sale.  And older discontinued Miele models are usually priced lower than original MSRP.

Hi Carmine,

I'm not prone to deal with brick-and-mortar based vendors these days as much as I am inclined to shop online. (Statistics say that's sort of a guy thing) however I've noticed online that pricing for most Miele product is standard.  As an instance, if you search for the "Red Velvet" you usually come up with the same price vendor to vendor.  Relief may come if shipping is free and sales tax is not required.

I have only found the Capricorn at a better price of eight-hundred-and-something dollars in comparison to over the $1,000 you find it for at online vendorships.  As for buying at local established vendors, in my area these people are hard-pressed by overhead.  Rental of business is sky high and they unfortunately cannot offer attractive pricing.

Regards,

Venson

Hi Venson,Miele and riccar have minimum advertised prices that must be put on the net,If the rules are broken, you will shut off by the miele and riccar police.
Just ask Jeff...............

And if you don't order/sell a minimum number in a certain period of time, you're out.

Thanks again Carmine.  Then, hypothetically, online dealers have their hands tied due to chance of more easily being scrutinized but, assuming the companies in mention can't possibly be thorough in researching independent vendors pricing nationwide, other than eBay the best chance for real deal making should available through indepents.  Or least those not paying a lot of rent.

Hello Venson:

I believe you can make the best deal face to face with an owner operator of a vacuum store than on the Web.  You can call and shop around using the telephone and net.  But when you are face to face in business, there is more of a personal and professional business relationship and transaction.  And a better likelihood that a vacuum buyer of Miele and RICCAR will be offered the best price by the store owner/operator to close a sale.
