Hi,
Aerus is introducing the "Lux Lite". By way of basic design, it is somewhat like the Oreck. I just saw one here in New York at an Aerus store -- didn't try it -- and was informed the price is $300. It does require more headroom than Oreck so I'm assuming there's more going on with the fan.
I've checked hte net but the "Lux Lite" is not yet on the Aerus website.
Also -- for those interested -- the customer service person I was speaking with on Aerus' 800 line says that the Ultra Lux can now be bought through them, customer service, at half-price ($350) with attachments, 30 free bags and a three-year warranty.
As always, they owe me big time for this piece of press since I have no affiliation with either Aerus or any of its subsidiaries or employees.

Hi, Venson. The next time I'm in the Aerus Electrolux store in Topeka, KS, I'll ask about the Lux Lite. May be over there tomorrow.

It's real strange to me that the Oreck has a bad reputation with many vacuum experts, but it is being (or has been) mimicked by so many vacuum companies. First, there was the Bissell Pro-Lite. Then, the Kenmore knockoff. The Taucony company markets these under Riccar/Simplicity and various other companies I don't know the name of. I have even seen one with the Hoover name stampedon it. And now, Aerus. I guess there really is a market for lightweights. I think my little Oreck performs well for what I use it for. I understand that these may have a larger fan, but it is basically the same design as the original Oreck. The big difference is the price. I know these will probably sell for less than the Oreck.

There's always been a market for smaller lightweight vacs, maybe even moreso these days since many new houses don't have wall to wall carpet anymore, smaller condo's again with little carpet, and all those people only having perhaps area rugs. Then you have the people in McMansions or just new average sized homes again with little carpet and now more than likely a central vac. None of these scenarios really wants a big honkin vac when a small lightweight is easier to manouver and handle for what little carpet they now have. Even if you do live in a modest apartment fully carpeted which thousands of people do, a small vac makes a lot more sense and usability compared to a full sizer.

Being "mimicked" by other companies is a good thing. It gives people more choices in a cleaner design/style. Companies also have the ability to improve on a feature from another brand. Example being the better cleaning performance from Tacony's brushroll compared to ORECK.
These "8lb." uprights can be very useful when it comes to needing a liteweight machine. The "handle-weight" is almost "0". Add a ergonomic handle and you almost have perfection for the person w/ difficulty using a vacuum cleaner.
On another note, look for a new vacuum cleaner from Electrolux. It is similar in design to the Meile Art, Westinghouse Converto-vac, GE SV series. Similar being that there is no bag compartment on the handle like traditional uprights.
