Hello tcat:

Glad you like the HOOVER Tempo.  Well worth the price.

The Slider runs $25-$39 depending on the retailer.  It's a decent performer for light quick pick ups on rugs and floors.  The best use I found so far, in addition to the pet hair from my lab, was when my dear Grand daughter broke a glass candle holder over the Holidays.  It was about 6 inches round.  Fell off the kitchen table (with the 3 year old's help).  Grand daughter picked up the candle to smell.  Holder was attached and then fell off.  My son-in-law got up the big pieces by hand.  I went over the entire kitchen floor with the Slider to pick up the rest of the glass shards.  Perfect.  Got them all the first time. Then dumped the bin.

Good luck with your purchases.

Hoover Savvy, WT 2, Kirby, Sanitaire & Panasonic upright (w/brush control) are even better choices they're excellent vacs that 100% clean carpet.  The Savvy & WT 2 have brush switch so U can go from carpet/bare floors with flick of switch. Smiley

You might want to consider the lightweight Eureka Mighty Might or its Sanitaire twin and get a model with the shoulder strap.  With 1500 sf of hard surface flooring, a canister can be really useful.  The more expensive versions of these models have better floor tools and hoses.

From http://www.allergybuyersclubshopping.com/eurmig.html?KNC=dffr&c=220VC  :

"The Sanitaire System Pro S3686 HEPA canister vacuum cleaners are compact and ultra lightweight. They have an unique carrying strap that allows them to be conveniently carried about without breaking your back. Cleaning carpets, flat floor surfaces, area rugs, stairs and many other hard-to-reach surfaces is a breeze with the deluxe floor tool, 3 accessory tools and the air driven turbohead that we recommend for performance. Hepa filtration comes standard on this vacuum."

When all the B.S. stops and getting the rug clean is important. The tempo is a winner at any price.Just buy a couple of spare belts.pt#38528-040,keep the brush rollor clean and the bearings lubed, they still use the same brushrollor bearings from the 50's.The bags are type a bags or b or even type y will work.

You will get your moneys worth out of it.........

does yours have the headlite?.
You can buy 5 tempo's for the dicounted price of the dc-18,and have money left over to do something that you really like doing ,other than vacuuming the house..
