Miele

Hi everyone, just found this site while trying to research vacuums.  My parents have had a miele for some 20 years and it still works everytime.  So I felt like I should show some brand loyality and get a miele now myself.

I went to their website and their personal shopper told me to get:

S4210 Capella with SEB100-3 Accunova Powerbrush

I live in a condo, around 1300sq.ft. with medium plush carpet and tile floors, and I have a cat.  Will this canister clean my carpet & floors?  From what I've read, canisters are not so great on carpet.  Thanks.

Thanks OT.

I went to their site and found the seb236, it looks to be a better head for carpet cleaning.  I'll continue to reseach this product, your advice was wonderful!  Thanks again.

I would suggest that you find a miele that will accept a more aggressive power nozzle.  There are direct connect and a model w/a cord on the outside.  These will clean your carpeting better than the less aggressive battery-operated nozzle.

Thank you Mike.  I have looked and it seems none of the S4 models come with a powered hose, so I would have to step-up a notch.  I've contacted a local authorized distributor and plan on heading over after work today.

I did like the seb236 head that O.T. suggested, but I see its not included on all powered units.  I asked if when I came in, I could swap powered heads if I liked a unit that didnt have the seb236.  He said we'll see when I come in... not sure if that was just to get me in the store or not.

I just purchased a Capricorn with the SEB236 power nozzle and it works fantastic - the best power nozzle I've used.  I have medium pile carpeting.

The S4 had a small battery powered nozzle that was similar to the 217 series powerbrush the S5 and older Mieles use. CU keeps testing Mieles with the 217 and rates them Good in rug cleaning.
The 236 is similar to the deluxe powerbrush used by Bosch and Oreck Dutch Tech, but adjustable in heigth.  That nozzle got a VG for rug cleaning for the vacs using it. For some reason CU never tests a Miele with a 236 (they show what they test).

My personal experience with both is the 217's nicer for general use (a small rubber strip on its base helps bare floor cleaning), but the 236's much better for grooming rugs thoroughly.

Only bad thing I have heard about the S5 is its bags can leak dust under some circumstances.  Always good to check the final filter every so often to make sure there's no buildup.

Well, with all your help I made my purchase last night.  The salesmen showed me the S5 Callisto, what a vacuum.  We did swap out the SEB217-3 Powerbrush for the SEB236, and I paid the difference.  The SEB236 is a killer head, thanks for the imput on that.  I got a free box of bags also.  Did a serious vacuum sesion and wow, what a machine.  Of course its new and all, but I hope to be satisfied for many years to come.

The salesman said, keep the HEPA changed annualy, keep the bags from overloading, replace the motor filters everytime I crack open a new box of bags and god willing, the machine will last a very long time.

The salesman did want to show me something new they where pushing, Sebco.  I had never heard of them, but it looked very well made.

To the admins, you run a great forum here!  Thanks again!

The Miele Longevity Test:

Miele vacuum cleaners are tested to last a minimum of 1,000 operating hours or an average of 20 years of residential use.  This is only possible because of the critical Miele-made component of the vacuum cleaner...its motor.

The Miele company's 107-year motto is Immer Besser: Forever Better.

Congrats on your new purchase.
