Hi,

I am in need of a new vacuum, the more web surfing I do the more confused I become. I am interested in a canister and came cross this one http://www.metrovacworld.com/Shopping/download_images.asp?file=none&sku=professionals

I am wondering if anyone has used one or knows anymore about them?

Thanks a bunch,

Sherry

Hi, metropolitan vacuum co. At one time was a huge rebuilt electrolux center. From model xxx to 1205's.
They have been around for many years.

Good luck on your search. The confusion comes in from being over infomationed.

your best bet would to get expert advice from the vacuum guru's on this forum.

Metro vacuums are "niche" vacuums.  They are marketed primarily for special purpose cleaning needs: i.e., animal hospitals and vets; office machine repair; car washes etc.  They are pricey and no frills.  They offer design, form and function which are years old in the vacuum industry: USA made, all metal, tank type, heavy duty, cloth bags with paper inserts, blower capable, traditional attachments for above the floor cleaning.  Primarily straight suction cleaners but as you see with the Turbo 2000 equipped with a power head (rug nozzle) for rug cleaning (with a head lamp).

All in all, decent performers and made for longevity.  But rather pricey.

If the Turbo 2000 came with a cordwinder rather than a crown for the cord wrap, I think they would make an excellent all around household value.

Truth be told, OT knows all this.  Just like he said they were huge rebuilders of lux 30's for many years.  Metro vac resides in Suffern, NY.  And sold commonly through Office Depot stores.

This is an old company that rebuilt  Electrolux vacuum cleaners.  They were popular in the Spiegel catalog.  You could find rebuilt Electrolux XXX's w/generic, plastic attachments.  I also recall the no longer around Woolco stores sold Metro's rebuilt Electrolux cleaner.

The vacuum cleaners are okay.  I am not sure which model you were looking at.  They use a china-built power nozzle now that cleans carpeting well.

You can find Metropolitan on target's website, but not the top of the line new model.

These Metros look to be professional models, good for that fireman who asked about vacuum cleaners recently.. and that may be costly, but if the durability is in tens of years, then the price is low..

There's nothng more generic in design than the Metro Vac and despite the high-wattage motors and simple, less prone to air-leak design, I wonder how they fare in regard to maintaned suction. A lot of simply made vacuums experience suction drop-off early in the game before you have even a half-full bag due to less thought out internal design..

Don't get me wrong, I remain a lasting fan of bagged vacuums but the simple of form (fan in a can) Metro Vac does not appear to allow for airflow around all sides of the bag in the same fashion as erstwhile Electrolux and yet plodding on Air-Way did to produce more bang for the buck with lower wattage.

I am left to assume that the designers felt that high-powered motors can power its way past the problem.  Is this so or not?

Hello Venson:

In a tank type vacuum with a pre-motor filter and a cloth bag WITH a high quality paper bag insert, it is so (IMHO).  Such is the design, form and function of the metro vacuum cleaner.  A throw back to the tank type vacuums of years gone by with the motor power (suction), filter and paper bag technologies of today.

To add to the CU innovation list, they can also do tests on the electric consumption of ALL test appliances.
These old design units would lose out is brute force is used inefficiently..

At 8.7 amps for 1.7 HP, the top of the line metro turbo 2000 uses less electricity (75 percent) than the 12 amps for the industry standard of today's vacuums.

gotta keep the air moving, the only real advancement over the years have been in the bag and filtration department.

Anyone remember when eureka went to the 4 peak h.p. 2 stage motor, and did not compensate with a better filtering bag.well the outcome was far from what they expected.

Hint try feeding your single wall bag some 4 ply  bathroom paper, let me know the results...........
