The Eureka/Electrolux Optima 430
02/10/07 at 4:09pm

It is OK, thus far , two whole days !
For the price, she is excellent
and ,of course, made in China, explaining the very good workmanship...
Designed in Europe ???
This possesses excellent design..

The instructions are poor to fair - par for the course.
They are close to being pitched.
We need communications reform, today !

This Optima is, IMO, a middle weight , they say lightweight, but then there is the Oreck at 8 pounds, which is overpriced,IMO, but still worthy of consideration...

I's like to see a higher quality, better  version of the Eureka Optima Bagless at - say $150....

Did your Optima 430 come with the Power Paw?  If so, does the power paw have a tether cord to secure to the vacuum?

Four hours later, 33 reads, excellent !

Mention is made of a "turbo nozzle",an upolstery brush, for $15 or more, in the pathetic manual.......Is this the same thing ? I do not have this, but it seems to be a useful accessory..

The "power paw" I do have, I think..... Page 5, manual, they say "on some models"...I wish a professional was assigned to write the manuals, NOT the idiots we have today doing this..
But I see no tether for the "PowerPaw"brush housing ..

An excellent vacuum, but I must complain to Electrolux Eureka about the manual...
But, all the assembly and service was done without the manual, so I may just pitch it.

Eureka calls it's turbo nozzle a "power paw."  It's a decent tool but you need a screwdriver to open up and clean it.  Unlike the HOOVER and Dirt Devil turbo tools which open easliy and quickly for cleaning.  The power paw tether cord is a new feature on Eureka vacuums equipped with the power paw.  A good idea (a Eureka original not a copy) but it restricts the range of the turbo tool (IMHO).  Others may disagree.  I was curious if your Optima had the tether cord and you felt the same as me.  So I asked.

You'll note that the user manual is "generic" for the Optima "430 Series."  There are several different models in this "lightweight" venue.  Some with the power paw and some not.  Some with the tether cord and some not.  Since the vacuum makers started to print the user manuals in several languages, they have culled the number of words and pages to make up for the space for additional languages.

You note the "catch all" phrase usually in bold print/italics:  If you have a problem with this vacuum, call and/or visit an authorized Eureka repair shop..........or words to that effect.  The disclaimer eliminates the need to give troubleshooting directions in the user manual.

Having scanned the latest CU rag, I see where a Eureka Optima 431 is rated "not acceptable" , for some reason...

It does work well for us, thus far, I am happy..

CU can be strange, very strange, I see where a $1000 unit is rated no better than a $100 cleaner....
I do not trust CU...

Turbo is silly advertising hype.
The rotary brush in the Uptima 430 is electric powered, I think their accessory brush is air powered..

The manual is OK when used as a dirt pick up, replacing the dust pan, otherwise the manufacturers should not even try....

I do not understand this tether cord business, what would be its purpose ??

My understanding is that the accordion tether cord keeps the turbo tool affixed to the vacuum but still allows tool usage (with limited range).  Why?  The turbo tool has a tendency to come loose during use, storage and transport.  When it falls off, it may become damaged and/or lost.  The accordion tether cord lessens the likelihood.  To my knowledege, Eureka is the only brand to use it.  But it is a new feature and others may imitate.  CR may pass judgement on the feature in the future.  Breaking and loosing on-board tools, not just the turbo which is usually the most expensive, are inevitable and problematic for most uprights.  Hence the tool storage compartments and bins which ameliorate the problems but do not eliminate them.

If Eureka (owned by Electrolux Home Care Products USA and Canada) added a spin duster to the Optima Lightweight it would be a very nice and useful extra (IMHO).  Even one that is smaller than the duster on the full size Eureka uprights.  CR has been complimentary and supportive of this feature on the Eureka uprights.  Also a Eureka original, not a copy.

Several updates on the new vacuum
The correct model number is 433 B
CU tested the 431

I have no idea what this means

As a guess, the 430 was the original, the 431 was changed ever so slightly(probably cheapened, causing a CU "non-acceptable" rating !
The 432 may have been very slightly improved to remedy the so-called fault.
The 433 - who knows ? There is an annoying little piece of  paper sticked placed over the switch - rather stupid of the manufacturer.
Thet have, IMO, made a good unit, but not that good, that silly little things can't be done to damage it.
The "buyer's guide" is a case in point..
Now it is vacuum cleaner cleaning the cleaner time..

The Eureka Optima 431A was not recommended due to poor emissions.

So, now, I wonder, and have wondered, what is the difference between the 431(non-acceptable) and the 433 ???
I will try to ask Eureka this same question.
I did comment to them about their manual and I expect no real response.. American
companies seem to be locked into poor communications,  then wonder where the
 profits went....
