Hey! I'm pondering to invest in a Dyson! I've wanted a Dyson for long time, and since I saw it for the first time in the 90's I wanted one. I was a kid at that moment and I couldn't convince my mom to get one —she has been always a Electrolux woman. When I moved out and my current wife and I got our first apartment together we just got a really cheap bagless vacuum cleaner —50€— that has been working for the last 5-6 years like a charm, even when although we had a small apartment —~45m²— we vacuum every week. We moved to a new bigger apartment —~80m²— and we are thinking to get a new vacuum, even when our current one is still working really good. I'm really pondering in investing on a Dyson V8 or even perhaps in a V10, even more since we have a baby now and we are looking for something a little bit less noisy. However, the other day I was talking with a relative and he told me that Dyson claim that their handheld vacuums are the "best second vacuum cleaners", in other words, Dyson is recommending you to have another vacuum cleaner for a deep cleaning or something like that. Is this true? Or a just a handheld Dyson is more than enough for an apartment? I've been checking and the battery last up to 40' or in case of the V10 up to 60'. That, in my opinion is more than enough for us. We usually don't spend more than 20' or 30' cleaning the whole house. We have some carpets / rugs, but most of the floor is laminate flooring. Hard to clean stairs, couches, chairs, drapes and anything much above the floor with an upright. Some uprights have a turbo tool as an accessory but most are not very good. In the US some of the better canister vacuums come with electric motor driven hand brushes that fit on the hose end and are powered by the same connections used to drive the power nozzle. These are vastly better than any turbo tool because they don't depend on airflow and never bog down when you pull suction. An electric motor spins the brush, often through a geared belt that doesn't slip. I imagine Diesoon (overpriced junk imho) is pitching this handheld thing as something you can use to clean all the places you can't get one of their uprights into. Btw, what is with the Diesoon fetish? Brittle plastics, poor agitation, filters that clog easily but don't unclog very easily or stay unclogged. Kludge. You can buy a lot better vacuum for the amount of money Diesoon bends you over for. If all you have are hard floors, which seems to be the case in Europe (I'm guessing you are from Europe because you use square meters rather than square feet), why not a good quality bagged canister? No messy dumping out a dust bin, cough cough, gag. Reminds of old cloth shake out bags. Yuck. If you are Australian Panasonic sells some really outstanding bagged canister vacuums. They have great motors (Dyson uses Panasonic motors on US models, Dyson doesn't make their own motors for anything) and are much better built. If you don't overfill the bag and change the filters regularly a Panasonic vacuum will last 20 years or more easily. I have a pair of 35 year old Jet Flo canisters that run great.

I’ve had one for a couple of years as I only had a small flat (only one rug near my bed) and no space to store a big vacuum. I find it really good for small spaces as there is no cord to get wrapped round table legs etc.
The battery life is not bad – you get a wall mount thing so you can leave it plugged in if you want. One issue is that it goes from “working fine” to “completely dead” in an instant, so you don’t get any warning of needing a recharge. It might be annoying.
Otherwise It’s good, but not a huge capacity.
