Does the world really need this???
Original Message   Feb 25, 2012 4:02 pm
Hi,

I suppose I qualify as a card carrying capitalist but sometimes I wonder  -- yes, even me who'll buy anything once.  I've just come upon the Drawer Vac.  It's half vacuum, half garbage disposal?

Check out the link below and tell me if this would work for you in your kitchen.

I guess I can see the benefit in a home with a lot of kids. You might have lots of crumbs and spills and messes to clean up, but what happens when those messes aren't on the counter tops? It's an interesting solution to an interesting problem, but what is wrong with a quick wipe down?

Hi Total,

As usual, I think it just another brainstormed widget vendors hope to make a little money on.  If you miss the drawer thingy and stuff falls to the floor, they have those little ports your baseboards that you can sweep  stuff into to be sucked away by your central vac.  Yet, heaven forefend, that would actually mean touching a broom.

Although I'm all for the idea of central vacuum systems, I wonder as to what kind of powerhouse system you'd have to put in to support  the use of doo-dads like that.  I think one video I viewed had at least two drawer vacs in different spots in one kitchen.

Of course, if I had the money to foot the bill for stuff like that I'd probably have somene in two or three days a week instead.  I'd happily tell whomever, "Go do this . . . go do that," from my easychair.

Yeah it might work. They do offer free demo too. Actually I do need a special product to perform that task

Interesting, but why not simply hold your wastebasket under the counter lip and sweep all the crumbs/food waste into that?  FYI the domain for this product is now for sale, so perhaps the company went bust?

Yeah, that would be a good point for them. What's wrong with it anyway? Why not sweep it first then vacuum?
