Fleas . . .
Original Message   Apr 25, 2010 7:01 am
Hi,

Summer's coming soon and of course, come hot, dry weather, there will be some pet owner's who experience problems due to flea infestation.  The following article is interesting not because it recommends frequent vacuuming -- along with the use of proper pesticides -- but because it also claims that vacuuming stimulates pre-adult fleas to emerge sooner from their insecticide-resistant cocoons, speeding up their exposure to pesticides in use.  (There's no mention of UV light worthiness.) Has anyone heard of this before?

Hello Venson:

I've heard most of this before including the point you mentioned about vacuuming exposing the fleas sooner.  Of note, some dogs and breeds are precluded from using the chemical treatments mentioned for fleas, because they are epileptic and the chemicals bring on the spells.  Common with labs.  In lieu of the chemical treatment I vacuumed the dog and homes daily, longer in the hotter and humid seasons which were very typical of Virginia.  Las Vegas, because of the lack of humidity, was a better environment for the dog WRT to fleas.  For almost 12 years, without the use of chemicals on the dog or homes, we kept the fleas at bay.  Vacuuming was the key IMHO.
