Hi retardturtle1,

What you missed is nothing compared to how much someone may be missing his job. Instead of inputting both the discount and price in their proper places, only the discount was input and it was erroneously placed in the price slot. Wonder if their data and inventory systems ring a bell or something?

I saw the HOOVER Platinum lightweight with the companion compact cleaner advertised for $399 in the SEARS sales supplement.  Ironically, Venson we were just saying that SEARS has not advertised in the newspapers in months.  Apparently, it made an exception for the MEMORIAL DAY Weekend.

As the saying goes, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

I tried to order on line.  When I added to my shopping cart the price was $399 and $9 shipping.

I called Sears and gave the SSKU # to the lady rep. She liiked it up, put me on hold and came back to say that it must be a misprint.

I told her no thanks at $399.

HI Venson:

A visit to the SEARS Web Site now shows that the error, mistake, misprint whatever is corrected and the price is $399 with the companion compact canister.

Also shows a savings of $60 on the HOOVER Platinum light bagged with companion canister for the MEMORIAL SALE.  Sales price of $339.  Competing with ORECK which by the way is running its own sales for the MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.

Also note the new SEARS canister that vaclov posted in the SEARS line up of vacuum products on the Web page.  They got that one right the first time.

Hiya DIB:

What price did you pay for the vacuum?  $14?  $399?  $339?

Wal-mart near me also seemed to have that issue... they put the Hoover Platinum Bagged upright on their shelf where  a Bissell floor model used to be.  The price in front of the floor model said 39 dollars for about a week... I complained to the manager that it was false advertising, but they still woudn't honor the price!    The sign now reads 399....  Only a matter of time before they start turning up on CL and the 'bay

Carmine,

I thought Sears had some damaged and/or returns they were dumping.  I thought the description was in error and not the price.  I assumed if it were a price misprint Sears would notify me as so. - They did, "no sale per their liability and restrictions agreement".

BEST BUY stores are selling the HOOVER Platinum Collection Lightweight Bagged Upright with companion canister for $299.  This is a $100 discount from the MSRP.  I'm not overly impressed with the duo but both are decent overall performers for household usage.

I can't say exactly what you'll get for 14 bucks but Sears has been regularly sending me emails almost every week it seems. For those looking for economical buys, Sears is holding in-store-only "Super Saturday Sales" tomorrow, August 15th. New bargains will be announced every hour.

Check in with your local store to learn if this sale is in effect in your area.

As always, I have no affiliation whatsoever with Sears but highly recommend it as a source for, among other things, decent vacuums at decent prices AND not only from the Kenmore line. Any objections? Well, you can go straight to . . . Williams-Sonoma or Bloomingdales -- and give 'em all the money you want.

Sadly most big box retailers show a lack of imagination in displaying the vacuum/floorcare products they sell.  Just lining them up willy nilly.  In the old days the displays of the vacuums in stores and store windows were a thing of beauty.

This just came across from amazon.com on vacuum savings.  Along with this printed message:

Dear Amazon.com Customer,
As someone who has shown an interest in vacuums, you might like to know about our current savings on select upright, canister, and handheld vacuums.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=pe_26470_12589920_fe_txt_1/?ie=UTF8&docId=1000403891

Some prices are good.  Some not so.

Rated superior to Oreck by CR.  They must not place a high value on your opinion.

In the old days the lights were so dim and the windows so dirty that a customer could barely see the display.

Like I said HS, HOOVER bagged Platinum does better on higher pile carpets than ORECK.  ORECK does better on lower pile carpets.  Both [ORECK and HOOVER bagged Platinum] are in direct competition with each other in price and products for these lightweights.  You can't get much greater flattery than a top notch competitor like HOOVER copying pages right out of ORECK's sales strategy, product design and functions and prices.  Even Consumer Reports missed that nuance.

Try cleaning your glasses.  It helps you see better.
