I work for TTI / HOOVER at a Service Center. The rumors are true, we are closing all stores as of December 31, 2008. The Hoover brand may not even exist after remaining stock is sold. It is quite possible the Hoover DNA will be eaten by dirt devil. If Hoover does exist it will be a different animal all together ( We doubt it will ). New products such as the Platinum and the Diamond line, as well as some extentions of the aniversery models will be pushed back if ever produced. So Merry Christmas and God speed to all of us at what once was a great company formerly known as Hoover.

Your right Carmine, . The Service Centers were not really a drain on Hoover (a drop in the bucket), we did have a bad year, but in the grand scheme of things the amount of money we lost was in no way comparible to general big box retail dropping 30-40%. I hope all you independents get your shot now. The consumer is wise to some extent, alot of the "old school" still want quality, with a place to work on them when they do break. Simple economics says this $40 vacuum year after year makes more money than a 279$ Hoover which lasts 7 -15 years.. find a cleaner in that range and explain this simple issue. Bagless machines suck, they are dirty and if proper filter maintance is not followed the motors give out.. Even Dysons have motor prefilters. Yes you have to buy bags, small price to pay for a vacuum that works. New is not always better, it's hype.
