Ariens chute question
#1   Dec 17, 2007 12:14 pm
I have an Ariens 924050 ST824, the chute on it is a little short. It looks like some of the slightly newer models had a taller chute with one clue being the handle

bracket to tilt is horizontal intead of verticle.  Does anyone know if a taller chute can be fitted? It has the toothed drive ring.

Saw was probably made by Roper. I have acouple of blue and white ones (one with the Power Sharp feature). All my air filter covers are broken. I made up a new one out of some sheet aluminum. They pop up on E-Bay as well as parts. I got new air filter here: http://www.mfgsupply.com/ChainsawCarbRoper.html/mv_session_id=4i2wmpDh

Kind of like the Homey XL12/SXL saws in poer and appearance.

Pinch off the fuel line and remove the bowl nut at the bottom of the carb bowl and remove the bowl. Clean out the bowl and poke out the tiny passages on the bowl nut.

This is the main fuel jet. Use a bread bag twist tie and carb cleaner and compressed air if its available.

Wow, better than showroom Garandman. I obviously have'nt done a full restore but the machine is very usable. I also painted the shoot with POR-15 and added the inmpeller rubber kit. Even though its a 20", it keeps up with the newer 824's. I am glad I'm the not the only one who thinks fixing up and improving these older machines is worth while.

I carefully drilled a 1//4" hole thru wheel and axel and drove in a roll pin. Alot simpler than I thought it was going to be.
