need help locating a gear for a Bolens 4021 snow thrower gear box
#1   Dec 13, 2005 8:48 am
I have a Bolens 4021 24"-snow blower (Red one) , with Techumsa engine, I am attempting to rebuild. The engine is good, but the prior owner took out the shear pins and put in bolts, and hit something. The front spiral box gear,  a brass spiral gear is eaten away. The auger shaft gear is steel and ok. The gear measures 2-1/4" dia. the shaft is 1" diameter, with a 1/4" keyway. The gear is 1-1/8" thick, solid brass 20T. I have looked at the MTD-Troy built sites, they seem to use a similiag gear, but their shaft size is 3/4". with a 3/16" keyway.  I am sure of the model number, since that is what is on the plate on the back of the unit, Model 4021, ser. no. 0100826. I even have the users amnual with that number, which does not seem to corelletate to anything else. All I need is this one gear. Anyone have one or know where I can get one. I tried to navigate the MTD site, but they only have the smaller shaft gear. Email me at hager15@juno.com.
Re: Electric Pneumatic Log Splitter - Power Fist YP5225 - and others

I bought (on ebay) a Cental Machinery one, almost exactly the same as the Troy Built one, all I needed as a hydrolic line from Northern Hydrolics and it was fixed. I used it with a generator in the woods, thing worked great! it is noisey. only part I don't like on the electric-Hydrolic is you have to hold the motor button down, while you hold the trip lever with the other hand. this sort of leaves you leaning over the log that's being split. I really don't like my face that close to that much force, even if it moves very slowly.
Re: painting snow blower - impeller removal?

I have used a product at Home depot called Stripese, It takes any paint off right down to bare metal in a few seconds. I used it on my Chrysler vans roof. it went reight down to bare metal before my eyes. then you use a neutralizer spray, wipe it down and prime it, and repaint. came out like a factory paint job.
I have a question. I am rebuilding a Bolens 4021 2 stage snowblower. same probem, I think there are shear pins in the second stage shaft, that if I drive them out I should be able to get the whole thing out. I need the front gear box. the gears are gone. I was given the following MTD part numbers, 1720933, and 1740468 as replacement parts. I'm not sure if these are really the replacement parts or not. Any one got a 4021 gear box they want to sell? I removed the side impeller mount bolts, and the 2 stud bots on the pully in front of the engine. Still won't budge. I think there are 3 more bolts in front of that where it enters the second stage auger housing and the shaft goes through a beaing, I need to remove. Once I get it out, if the two part numbers are correct, then I can repair the gear box. Am I heading in the right direction.-Steve
