can I put hand warmers on my ariens st926le snow blower?
#1   Jan 9, 2011 7:26 am
Hand warmers were not an option on this model.  It has a briggs and stratton 9.5hp OHV engine.  Any thoughts??  I have seen a few different types available but they do not list my model.  It is model number 926007.  Thanks.
Re: Replacing Ariens auger gears

Go to ariens.com and look up your serial and model number on the parts radar.  I would recommend replacing the entire gearbox and to not just try and rebuild it.  Chances are you have other worn parts in there which could cause it to fail again.  If you do decide to rebuild it, look at all the parts in there and if any show signs of wear, replace them as well.  You will have to also replace the oil seals on each side of the auger shaft. Don't forget to replace the oil seal on the shaft that goes to the impeller.  The seals are very thin so be sure not to cut them when you slide them onto the shaft.  If they tear they will leak.  That is why I suggest replacing the entire assembly.  The auger shaft rusts and becomes pitted which makes it very diffucult to replace the oil seals without damaging them.  Let me know how it goes.
Gearcase problem

Hey Snowman I need your help.  I have a st824 Ariens.  I bought it in 2004.  The worm gear and shaft stripped, don't ask me how but the shear pins did not break and the brass gear stripped.   I replaced it with part # 53208800.  I replaced the seals in case they were damaged during the disassembly.  I used loctite 518 and l2 ariens lube.  I put the gearcase back together and ran it for ten minutes.  The gearcase was cool and no leaks.  My first use with the rebuilt case went well until I got to the end of the driveway and tried to cut through the plow mess at the end of the driveway.  The gearbox stripped again.  I did not hit anything.  I was just going through snow.  When I reassembled the gearbox I noticed that the gear that attaches to the auger rake shaft was made out of steel not brass.  Could this be part of the problem?  Does ariens guarantee their parts?  I assure you that I assembled it correctly and that it was in good working order when I started to use it.  I also put brand new ariens shear bolts in just in case the old ones where not ariens part numbers.

Thanks,

Ed
