Having used my older Case 446 for every task, I was tired of removing the mower deck for rototilling the garden. I bought the John Deere L100 just for cutting grass.
The John Deere does a better job cutting my two acres of somewhat hilly grass. The mower deck has never clogged with wet grass unlike the Case 446. The L100 has excellent egress, visibility, turning radius and is quieter. It also weighs about 1/2 of the Case 446 that is a much more rugged garden tractor. Fuel consumption is also about 1/2 of the Case 446 garden tractor.
After two seasons, the John Deere L100 has performed well without any problems.
As for the price? Home Depot accidently sold the Scotts mower I bought that was on clearance sale. Having no other mowers in stock in that Scotts line, they gave me the John Deere L100 for the same price.
