coleman powermate generator stopped producing electricity

Hi, I was running my coleman powermate 5000 for about 4 hours during a recent power outage and the power from the generator just stopped. The generator was still running (at higher rps) but was not producing electricity. I checked the breakers and they were still ok. I unplugged the wires from the back of the plug-in and tested them. there was no current. Anyone have any idea what might have happened? Let me know. thanks jim
