Toro S-620 Electric Start Cord - Can I use any old extension cord?

I've got a Toro S-620 snow thrower with electric start. I don't have the cord for the starter because it was a hand-me-down. Can I use any extension cord to try the starter or does it have to be the cord that came with it? Anyone know?
