MTD Snowblower problem
#1   Feb 12, 2006 12:45 pm
I've got a 10 yr old MTD 5hp 2 stage 22" clearing width snowblower with a Tecumseh HSSK-50 engine. It ran fine until this year, it starts fine, moves forward and everything seems to work until it encounters snow. The augers will jam with as little as 1" of snow, the engine doesn't die, just the augers can't seem to chew through & impel the snow. There are no obstructions in the augers, they turn fine when no snow is involved.

I'm not very mechanically inclined, but I did find the 123 page Tecumseh Technician's Handbook [engine repair manual] for that model online, have the manual that came with the snowblower, and saw some parts [replacement auger belts] at Home Depot, but haven't a clue as to what needs fixing. When I called the repair shop last week, they were was too backed up to even look at it.  Wasn't able to buy a new blower this week, they've sold out for the season.  I'm getting buried by a blizzard today & am already sick of hand shoveling. Can anyone offer a clue as to what is wrong and how I can fix it?
