Ariens 824E Gearcase Leak?

I have an 824E, bought at Home Depot and used for 1 winter. In the spring, while it was parked in the garage, I noticed that the gearcase was leaking from the rear. The oil (or grease ) looked a little yellow. Is it possible that its leaking after 1 season?? Is it a worn gasket where the shaft enters? or from one of the bolts? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Poulan 5524 or Ariens 624

I am looking into a Poulan (not Poulan Pro.. if there is a difference) PO5524ES. Does anybody have comments on this machine? I like the fact that its all metal, and has a remote chute control. My driveway if 28ft * 25ft, is this strong enough? I live in Montreal, Canada. My other option is the compact Ariens, 624. Both are the same price. Thanks.
