My Shift rod comes in monday- I thought I'd bump this up to see if any on the board have insight as to how to install the new one(and take out the old one).

Thanks,

Mike

John Deere 826 snowblower

Hi

I'm a new user here. My aging 826 lost its shifter rod- the crankshaft shaped rod that moves the rubber tired disk back and forth to contol speed and reverse- due to metal fatigue at the inside cotter key hole. I thought that dropping the clutch linkage and the rubber tired wheel assembly would allow me to snake that old rod out thru the entrance hole and replace the new one the same way- but I think I'm wrong. Does someone on this board have a secret I don't know about or do I have to take the engine off as well?m Thanks for your help.

Mike
