Craftman 8hp Snow Thrower

I got a thick wood stick stuck auger that killed the engine. Restarted the engine and when I tried to get the auger to spin the belts started to smoked then the engine stalled. Nothing is stuck in the auger. The shear bolts that were in looked to be regular bolts with a nut on the end. I removed them and both were bent. I replaced them with a pin style shear bolt and restarted the engine...same thing the auger is stuck. I also noticed when I first hit the stick and then looked at the auger the auger shaft was out of the bearing flange or the plastic piece that the shaft spins in but I was able to get it back in. Any idea what happend? Or what I should do? Thanks for the help.
