Re: Age Old Question: Ariens, Toro, or Simplicity for Snow!

I too recommend the Simplicity. Like Talldog, I also just purchased the P10524E and this is one beautiful machine. I have a Simplicity lawn tractor which I bought 9 years ago and have had zero problems with it. I also had a Toro walk behind mower which I liked. But after exhausting research searching for a new snow thrower, the Simplicity was my choice for all the reasons Talldog mentioned. Borat is correct that Briggs & Stratton acquired Simplicity/Snapper over two years ago for 227 million, so I don't think Simplicity is going anywhere.
Good luck with your new machine.

Tubby,
Congrats! I just bought the same machine. I like the oil drain mod you put on. Where did you get it? Mine also came with a hose.
BTW, on mine, when I use the power chute the headlight dims significantly. I think I'll disconnect the light and see if the chute is even faster.

markbean, I live a couple of miles from you and just bought a new Simplicity P10524E from a dealer in Princeton. I can't wait to try it but the amount we got just didn't warrant me firing up. If I can drive through it and there's no EOD mound, then I let it melt. We only got about an inch or less. But my wife cleared the sidewalk with a shovel! It all melted today. Oh well, maybe Saturday night we'll get a chance to really test them. But the forecast doesn't look like anything more than what we got Thursday.

Borat, Absolutely ingenious! You obviously are a great innovator! Thanks for that detailed reply.
Tubby, Where do you live to get 150" of snow a year?

Well, It was delivered on Saturday and I must say, probably up there with the best designed and constructed pieces of equipment I ever bought!
Talldog: glad to hear!
Burat: How did you fasten that plastic sleeve? I just waxed the whole thing , in and out, not sure if that matters at all, but...
Jubol: Bought a Tiny Tach w/ hour meter. Its also resettable (not sure why).
Tubby: I thought the same thing looking at it but I would like to think Simplicity wouldn't put something on there that wasn't capable of dealing with the wet/salt etc. Time will tell.
Nibbler: sounds like a great design. Again, if this performs as well as advertised, wow!
Never thought I would say this, but, looking forward to a major snowstorm!
Thanks guys!
