Fuel tank on Toro mower
Original Message   Mar 14, 2005 4:33 pm
Hey guys, Today i was at work talking about mowers, and a buddy of mine has a Toro 21 inch walkbehind he has had for 17 yrs. The fuel tank is leaking on it, he said its made of plastic and its a kawasaki engine. He said he has looked everywhere for one he can't find one for it anyone know anywhere he might look? The mower cuts and runs great and he don't want to get rid of it but he said his garage is killing him from the gas smell. I said just drain the gas but I guess that would get on the nerves after a while. thanks Mike

Could it possibly be a Suzuki instead of a Kaw?  I have a Toro a year or two older and it has a Suzuki 5HP OHV on it. I'm not aware as to Toro use of Kaw's during this time frame?  I'm sure one of our experts can help you in terms of availability of parts.  Good luck!

Has he tried the Toro master parts viewer? Have him get his model number and serial number off of the mower and use it here.

He could always drain the tank and patch it with that JB Weld stuff.

Mike,
Like Mo suggested.....It's more than likely that it is a Suzuki engine.
If that is the case.... make sure that it's not the carb that's leaking instead of the tank.
Check the deck under the carb for staining and check around the float bowl for indications of fuel.
It very well could be the tank that has a problem....but that particular carb is well known for having problems with needles and seats leaking.
I have rarely run accross a split seam on the gas tanks.....but I constantly see the carb problem.

Man you guys are  quick! It is a Suzuki i called him last night and said you sure its a Kaw. He said no it's a Suzuki, I told you wrong. He said that there is 2 screw in the bottom of the tank and thats where its leaking. I told him to take it off and try to maybe seal them better. He acts like he would rather just by a newe tank so i told him I'd ask you guys where he could find one. I'm gonn acheack out some of these link i have been given thanks.

that fuel tank new runs  $46.00  up here in minnesota.   depending  exactly where the crack is you can  "weld" it.  we have done this in our shop.  use a 1/2  wide soldering iron.  get good and hot  500 degrees.  the start closing the seams

The Suzuki engine  has a metal blower case and has a fuel tank connected to the deck, (plastic or metal depending on age of mower).  The Kawisaki engine has a plastic fuel tank attached to the engine ( yellow fuel cap) most of the time.

Good Luck,

Friiy

PS. if you know a aircraft mechanic working for the airlines ask him if he has any  "B 1/2" sealant.   It works really good on fuel tanks.
