I just finished maintenance on my 1972 unit - 8hp Tecumseh, 26". If you are still trying to keep one of these great old monsters running, and these rubber parts are shot on your machine, be advised: The old AMF drive disc (or "friction wheel") is 6" OD X 2-3/4" ID, with a 4 bolt square mounting pattern. 6" X 3" drive discs are very common with almost all current manufacturers, but the 4 bolt mount is not. Oregon Products makes a replacement disc, their number 76-067-0, that fits Snapper, Ariens, Jacobsen, Toro, John Deere, etc., for less than $20. Its tire matches the old AMF part's OD, width, and offset. The 3" ID in the disc will fit around the 2-3/4" boss on the old AMF mount no problem. Oregon Products swiss-cheeses their disc with a whole bunch of mounting holes to fit various makes, are they are even the same distance from center as on the old AMF disc. But, wouldn't you know it, there aren't 4 holes that line up with the old AMF pattern. Use you old disc to match up one hole and then mark the new disc and drill three new holes to finish the pattern. When you are marking, keep the OD's of each disc even with each other (eyeballed is close enough), and spin your discs around until you find an alignment when the new holes you will be drilling are not too close to any existing holes i the new disc. My unit has a 3" OD double sheave pulley mounted on the motor to power both drive belts, and identical 8-1/2" pulleys on the wheel drive and auger drive sections. Thus, both drive belts on these machines are identical. They are 1/2" X 38" - trade sizes 4L380 or L438. If you are looking for something easy to source and with Kevlar fabric construction, try Murray part number 585416.
