Help! Anhyone know what wiper motor simplicity uses on a 1524 P for a shute?
Original Message   Dec 12, 2013 1:20 pm
Dangnabit! I KNEW that stupid motor was going to be an issue sooner or later. Now it is all messed up inside, a seal must not have sealed over time. Plus, it is a real $*%& to get off. Recessed nuts and no clearance to get to them. What fun!

OPE dealer wants close to 150 for a new one. I know it is a right side window motor, just need to know what to.

ANYONE?

Not sure if you want to go through all the trouble of finding a suitable fit motor.  But I did find an online dealer that has the parts for a bit cheaper than the dealer.

http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=simplicity&mn=1695665+-+P1524E%2C+14.5GT+24%22+Snowthrower&dn=27077

Go down and look at item 0200.  Hope it helps.

Thanks Mate! The part number helped a lot. Here it is on fleabay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Murray-1728965SM-3-Spout-Rotator-Motor-Replaces-1728965-/321123104975?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ac46db8cf

Murray too! (?)

That is the part though. I know it is a window motor to some common car though. A good bone yard guy could probably get me there. I got the old one working by taking apart and getting the smuodge out of it, the gear box was full of water and yucky. Cleaned, re-lubed, it works a treat, but I know it won't last long. it is tough to get to the screws that hold it in ]lace, they are recessed into the assembly and no room to get a driver to hold them while you back off the bolt. Replaced those with allen head bolts.

Sorry can't help you with finding a motor.
But a few things that my help with keeping the problem from reoccuring.
You could try smearing some axle grease around the shaft where it goes
into the housing.  Smear enough so that the shaft is just spinning the grease around
in a circle as it spins.
It sounds like you may already have things back together.  But if not, you might also
consider drilling a small hole through the gear housing on the bottom of the unit.
Having a hole on the bottom will allow any water that may get it to simply drain out.
Something else that I do on my motors is to put a piece of foam pipe insulation around the
motor.  If the motor should generate any heat while in use. And while having snow or ice
sitting directly on top of the thin motor cover.  You could get condensation inside the motor.
That steel cover could start to sweat inside. It's also a closed air space so the moisture
has no place to go.
Just a thought.

Can't help with the numbers, but it's easy to see why they wear out prematurely. These units were never made for this kind of exposure and definitely should have some kind of cover to keep the snow off. They also need drain holes as jrtrebor pointed out. Seems to me it would have been very easy for B&S to enlarge the cover over the gears to protect the motor and keep the wire from getting snagged & broken.

I believe the water came in through the vertical output shaft seal.
My temporary fix worked great for the snow today!
The new one is on its way, ready to put in when it goes to the great gear box in the sky.
If I was had to redesign this, I would mount the motor so that the output shaft from the gear box pointed down. Or with a drive shaft that put it away from chute where it would stay dry.

Well, here it is:
http://store.amequipment.com/210-series-gearhead-motor-12v-rh-housing-p-132.html
$45!!!!!!
The one pictured in the am equipment is the exact one in the Briggs box. The sticker on the one shipped to me reads: AM EQUIPMENT MADE IN KOREA 210-1011 2A03.
Feel like ordering another just to have "in stock".

What a crappy design. Hope the new ones are better, and maybeat least have the damn motor mounted right side up so moisture does not collect in the gearbox and freeze up.
Just ordered a DORMAN 742561, hope it works. This will be either the 3rd or 4th one.

About 50 bucks, vs 130 to 150 from dealer.

Luckily the Dorman parts from RockAuto have a lifetime warranty. I've replaced the door lock actuators in my car more than once (car design flaw, not Dorman flaw), and they were very easy to deal with.
