Honda HS621 Value
Original Message   Aug 8, 2013 9:18 am
Wonder what the value of a Honda HS621 is? Debating on getting a smaller one for light duty. This particular one needs new rubbers and a scrapper. Here's a picture of it https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/998593_10151747847403118_368361744_n.jpg

Just my personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.  It is hard to determine the condition of the snowblower from the picture top down.  I'd be interested in the sides and front views.  Light dents and surface rusts are ok.  The machine would be in sound condition.  Rusted through or thin metals are not ok and will require some work to patch it to stop it from rusting further.  Also, are the metal auger dented or bent?  A bent auger will not move snow efficiently and will cause more vibrations and shorten the life of bearings.

For an HS621 with normal wear, scratches, and surface rust on the bucket, I would think it's worth from $250-300.  Take into account you will have to spend an additional $150 to replace belts, spark plug, scraper bar, rubber paddles, and about 1 to 3 hours of your time replacing the parts.  It's a good machine if you plan to spend some TLC working on it, it will last a long time.  Another thing to consider that parts are quite expensive to sustain it in working order for the next 20 years.

I would consider buying a brand new Toro 621R or 621E for around $450 - $500 since it will be cheaper in the long run. Toro SS units are really nice. Honda HS621 is very nice too if in a good shape but the parts not cheap to replace. I have Honda HS520 and it is not a bad unit. These SS units are easy enough for wives (or your kids) to operate.

Along this line, a discontinued or good used but not abused Toro 221QR would be an good alternative.  $80 in consumable auger/scraper/belt parts every 3-5 years is very reasonable in terms of cost of ownership.

OK, Thank you for the help. I may just hold off on the HS621 for now. See if I can find the ones recommended. Running out of room with all the toys. Need a barn now!
