I just picked up a craftsman lawn tracterm with an 18.5 hp Kohler twin. engine runs fine, but when I go to put it into gear it makes a sort of loud screeching noise. when I go to push it, it really drags. The brake unit is free. The model number is 917.258870, serial # 021197C002294. the #'s on the transaxel are 150073 218-3010L 6348C1058. It does have a spin on filter, but I don't see any p;ace to refill it (and what do I use?) ANY IDEAS?

I would check the belt for proper routeing first... It may also have a burned up idler bearing on the pully somewhere that is causing all your probs... I looked at the sear website and parts breakdown.. It shows a filter but no fill plug, on the owners manual it says the trans requires no service unless leaking... but doesn't mention the filter or show it in the breakdown--- (on owners manual) Good Luck, Friiy
