Help with fuel line plumbing
Original Message   Feb 11, 2013 11:54 am
I removed the Walbro HDA 59-1 carb from my Homelite 420 ss some time ago. Now that I'm finally putting it back on I can't remember which of the two small fuel lines that connect to the top of the carb, goes where. The fuel supply is evident because it is larger, but the other two are the same size. Any one seen these before?

In my limited experience I have never seen a fuel return (overflow?) line on a piece of OPE, is it common?(I know it is on cars)  I can easily trace all the lines from one end to the other, so I know which is which. But, I don't know which of the two fittings on the carb each one plugs into.

Cheers

The primer bulb appears to be on the carb.  If it is, when you actuate the primer bulb, one of the lines should show some sign of pressure/vacuum.  Put the tubes into a small container of fuel, pump the primer and see which line reacts.

After more research & following the hoses I have a clarification to add. Here is a crude drawing of the fuel hose system that covers the revised photos in the first post.

I found some material that refers to an "impulse fitting" that apparently takes impulses from the crankcase to operate the fuel pump diaphragm. Does that sound familiar???

Nope, the primer bulb is on the outside of the body works near the choke. That white thing is some sort of shield / deflector for the incoming air.

It's alive hahahaha!  Once I read about the impulses from the crankcase operating the fuel pump, I figured that it didn't matter which hose went where. Whether it's an  impulse from the crank case or from the primer bulb, they both push fuel, so I just plugged them in, gave it a pull & off she went! I don't think she'll keep up with the other Boratified 2 strokes, but that's another project.

By the way, I sent an email to Walbro to get some clear info but they weren't of any help. The guy said, "The two fittings on the fuel pump cover were for circulating fuel around the fins on the engine to warm the fuel" ?????
