Question about a Tecumeseh electric starter

What would it take, or is it even possible, to convert a 33329C 8 HP starter into a 33328C 7HP starter?

Do you know what the real difference is between them?  I've swapped starters between 7, 8 & 10 HP Tecumsehs and have not found any real issue so far.  About the only real difference I've seen is the type of starter button (gray plastic with unshrouded plugin vs black plastic with shrouded plug), the length of the cord between the starter and starter button; and whether the 2 top mounting holes are slotted or not.  Obviously the tooth count on the gear needs to be correct.

If the wire between the starter and starter button turns out to be too short, here's what I've done before to mount the starter button in an alternate locations (towards the bottom):
