1970 Airens Sno Thro Model 10962 need advise on changing fricton wheel
Original Message   Dec 1, 2012 2:22 pm
Hi, hope someone has some advice, I am trying to change the friction wheel on this machine, the manual I found that lists my machine has instructions for changing the wheel but states it is for 1972 and later models. Do you need to remove the bearing flanges and chain to slide the hex axle out to remove the wheel, thats what it looks like to me.  The nuts on the bearing flange just spin and the bolt seems to be tack welded from the other side, if anyone has experience with this please point me in the right direction, thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

If the nuts are just spinning.  You will have to use
a short or stubby flat bladed screwdriver to hold the bolts
while you loosen the nuts.
Some of the heads are hard to get too.  And just plain hard to
find or see because of the grease that is sometimes built up
inside the case.

After looking at the parts breakdown for your blower.
It looks as if your blower has a different drive setup.
It's hard to tell, but you might have to remove a shaft to
get the friction hub out.  Then you would remove the
disk from the hub.
He
re's a video that shows how to remove a friction disk
on most Ariens blowers.

Thanks for helping Jrtebor, the threads on all but one of the bearing flanges were stripped, it must have seen some repairs along the line since 1970.  I ended up removing the whold disc bracket assembly to get at everything and make it right, now to put it back together, thanks for your assistance, let you know when she's up an running, they don't make em like this beast anymore!!
