DECK BELT PROBLEM
Original Message   Jul 19, 2011 11:18 pm
I have a MTD 13AH660F372 AND I PUT NEW BELT ON DECK BUT THE BLADES GO AROUND EVEN WHEN THE DECK IS UP THE WHOLE WAY. I CHECKED THE BRAKES THEY ARE TUCHING THE PULLEYS. I CHECK WHERE I BOUGHT THE BELT AND THEY SWEARE IT THE THE RIGHT BELT. IT SEEMS THE SPRING AT THE REAR OF THE DECK WHERE IT HOOKS TO THE REAR IS REALLY TIGHT, BUT THERE IS NO ADJ, ANYWHERE.

No positive answer but a suggestion for a possibility.

My MTD also has no adjustment and the blades turn.  When not engaged the blades are turning without full belt pressure and will stop or hang up in high grass.

I think the way it works is the last part of pulling the lever from engagement to its resting position is supposed to move the deck and untension the belt enough so the pads can grab.

Did you check the manual to make sure the belt they sold you isn't a little too short.  Even one inch will make a big difference.

I'd compare it to the old belt, if you have it, just to make sure. Wouldn't be the first time a dealer was wrong.

Who the hell let all the morning people run things?
