Ariens mower with swivel wheels in front, anyone used this style?
Original Message   May 23, 2011 1:32 pm
Just stumbled upon the Ariens LM21SW with the swivel or caster type wheels in the front & I wonder how they are to use?
Seems to me they would be better handling than having to tilt up the front to turn.

Actually just found someone who sells a kit to convert any mower!

It depends on your property and/or your mowing pattern.  If your land is relatively flat then its a great feature.  If you have slopes and mow up and down the slope then it a great feature.  But if you have slopes and mow across them then its not a great feature.  It's harder to hold the mower in a straight line mowing across a significant slope.  The one that I tried out was a first generation model but I heard that one was in development that had remote locking and unlocking of the front casters to eliminate this problem.  The only other problem is you cant get as close to obstacles as fixed front tires.  Other than that it works as advertised and is very easy to maneuver.
