Warning lights for snowblowers
Original Message   Mar 6, 2011 12:51 pm
I hope that this idea might result in reducing accidents:

My driveway ends at a quite busy street.  I am always afraid that the drivers of the vehicles will not see me,

when I go out a ways on the street in order to clear the snow away from  the entrance of my driveway.     I thought  that I needed a flashing red light on my snowblower  perhaps powered by the alternator on my snow blower.  But I was shopping at Walmart one day and found 2 lights that trucks or RV vehicles use when they have to make an emergency stop on or at the side of the highway. They place these  lights on the highway behind and in front of their vehicle. They are about 3inches by 2.5 inches , have a flat bottom , and are made of red plastic,   (Cost was  Only $5 each) They have a bright LED flashing light , They are powered by 2 AAA batteries and the batteries will last a long time. I have had mine for 3 years and are still going strong, I have accidentally left them flashing for several days and still have the same batteries. There is an on-off switch on the back. I attached mine to the top of my cab of my snowblower on each side.  Friends that have passed by on the street , have remarked about their noticability and brightness..

THe name on the lights is  AUTOLITE flareglow

I like to see how long it takes to put that suit on.

royster,

I am also worried about vehicles when beyond my driveway's bottom.  Instead of lights, I bought a 24" 3M red and white reflector tape strip that I will somehow cut up and stick on over the summer.

I bought many of these for my small utility trailer and they really light up under headlights.

Why not just wear a high visibility safety vest?

They're commonly used in all forms of industry including transportation and construction.   Their liberal use of reflective materials make them very visible.

Those orange jumpsuits from the correctional centers are hard to miss.

Perhaps you could bring us  all one of these orange jumpsuits, when they let you out.

I'm surprised your mommy lets you play with big machines. Make sure you go potty before she dresses you up. :)

No freebies.  That's state property.  You got to earn it.
